In 1875, a twenty-three year old man by the name of Joseph Bulova migrated from Bohemia to New York City. Joseph went on to open his first tiny jewelry shop. During 1911, he was able to get his first plant. The plant was mainly used to construct Bulova men’s watches components. Bulova watches were then sent off to Bienne, Switzerland, where they were finished with jeweled movements.

World War I soldiers took an interest in Bulova timepieces during 1919. The devices became useful for the soldiers. Jeweled wristwatches for men also came into play during 1919. Four years later, in 1923, Joseph finalized his corporation with the title of the Bulova Watch Company, Inc.  The devices were then standardized with ten thousandth of an inch precision. During the next year, a line of feminine timepieces was brought out. Diamond accented pieces became a part of these watches.

Bulova then became really focused on new advertising technologies between 1926 and 1928. The very first radio commercial that was broadcast throughout the nation was by the Bulova Company. The first clock radio was also created by Bulova. During the Second World War, the American government and Bulova teamed up to bring advanced timepieces, watches, specially crafted airplane technology and torpedo fuses and mechanisms to the military.

The Accutron, one of the largest selling timepieces for the Bulova Watch Company, came into play during the early part of 1960. Tuning forks were used during the construction of the Accutron. With such technology, this watch has been able to keep track of time extremely well compared to a variety of other products that had been introduced. Since the Accutron could keep time so well, NASA decided to take the technology with them on the Apollo expedition. Then, during 1967, the Accutron was the favored watch of Air Force One.

The Bulova Satellite Clock came into play during 1968. It was the first clock in the world that used signals from satellites in orbit. It was publicly displayed by Gustavo Diaz Ordaz, the President of Mexico, in the top of the Torre Latino Americana, the tallest skyscraper in Mexico. The next device by Bulova, the Caravelle, was deemed the largest selling jeweled movements watch by the United States in 1968.

In 1987, Bulova became the official supplier of timing devices to the United States Olympic Team. The watches were provided for both the summer games in Seoul and the winter games in Calgary. By 1995, Bulova was continuing their expansion across the world with a distribution agreement in South America. Licenses were also extended to Europe and the Far East.

The 125th anniversary of the Bulova Company was celebrated in 2000 with Mayor Rudolph Giuliani. In 2001, Bulova obtained the Wittnauer trademark and the Harley-Davidson timepiece license. Also in 2001, Bulova ranked number 14 by women who were asked what brand they thought had the most luxurious apparel and accessories.

Assets of Heirloom were obtained by Bulova in 2002. Also during this time, the United States, Mexico and Canada, were buying grandfather clocks. Meanwhile, in Europe, Bulova set up headquarters in Bienne, Switzerland. From there, the Bulova European Collection was produced. The line became available on January 1, 2003.

In conclusion, Bulova watches have continually proven to be reliable and fashionable. The mens watches have been very useful to many people since their debut and do not appear be disappearing any time soon.
