Summer 2011 jewellery trends
Jewellery is intrinsically linked to the latest fashion trends. Therefore, although there are some timeless pieces the LBD, white shirt and straight leg jeans jewellery equivalents there are also plenty of fun, new on-trend styles to choose from this summer. Here are some of the season’s hottest trends.
In the realm of fashion, the 1970s was a decade or two very different halves. Hanging on to the 1960s, the first half of the decade was comprised of flowing maxi dresses, bellbottom jeans and kaftans. The hippy movement faded and disco took over with bright colours, bold statement pieces and shorter hemlines. Today we are now being treated with jewellery from both of these two contrasting trends.
The jewellery of the first part of the 1970s was ethnic influenced. The most common materials were natural, such as wood, stone and twine and styles were African or Indian in origin. The most stunning styling came from the details such as small beads and layered necklaces and bracelets. Ti Sento has some really delicate, beaded necklaces and bracelets that are in keeping with the style and ethos of the hippy era and are available from various in store and online retailers such as PeaPodsUK.
Disco influenced jewellery was far more showy and statement making. The bigger the better was the rule of thumb for this generation. Bangles, bangles and more bangles covered the forearms in bright, Asian-inspired and jewel-covered designs. Oversized brooches and rings of deeply colour stones and gems were very much en vogue. The range of rings from Ti Sento is spot on with chunky gems, oversized stones and simplistic yet elegant designs.
Back on the radar were pendants reminiscent of those from the 1930s and 40s. The defining characteristics were large and bold, although the length of the chains varied from extremely long to short and more like chokers. The most coveted styles were uncut stones, hearts, butterflies and mini disco balls. Ti Sento’s selection of pendants are on trend especially their key shaped pendants.
By the late 1970s and moving into the early 80s, punk styling took over including skulls, crosses and lots of studding. The punk is been overshadowed for now, but expect to see it again in the near future.
