A promise ring has several other purposes besides learning to be a pre-engagement ring. A promise ring can be given or used for virtually any sign of commitment. Its always meant to keep one sexually pure until true love and marriage is found. Any such promise ring is a constant reminder to wearer to remain abstinent until finally marriage.

Promise rings can also be used by those people who are looking to stay free by alcohol or other harmful chemicals. This ring can be provided to oneself or by someone else as a constant reminder to stay freed from drugs and other substances which might be harmful to the body.

While a promise ring generally is a promise to remain free originating from a drug addiction, it can also be considered a promise to remain free from other additions too. A promise ring is not limited for the usage of a pre-engagement ring, but could represent a promise between non-romantic colleagues, a promise to be chaste, a new promise of substance abstinence, a promise to settle free from an addiction, a new promise of monogamy, silence, religious commitment, and much more. One should not keep such a limited view of the promise ring as just being a new pre-engagement ring, but see the potential of its other purposes too. As seen, a promise can symbolize any promise that could be made between to individuals or maybe a promise made to oneself. A promise ring is just a physical sign of dedication.
