Swiss Army Mens Watch – Get The Right Sports Watch For You

September 3rd, 2010

Switzerland is known for many unique products. The most common products would be Velcro, Swiss cheese, and Swiss chocolate. The country is also known for its care and precision in the area of watch-making. The Swiss Army watches are one of its great achievements.

The company that created Swiss Army watches has been around since 1884. These watches were first created in Switzerland. The company is known for the creation of Swiss Army knives, but then branched out into creating watches.

Nineteen eighty-nine was the year the Swiss Army watch was available for purchase in the United States. The first watch, called the Swiss Army Original, is still desired today by watch buyers. One hundred and twenty-five years of excellence lead the company to produce a special anniversary watch, which was up for sale in 2009.

Twenty years has increased the range and style of watches the company now sells. Buyers will pay $125 for the Swiss Army Original. There are other models, such as the Alliance and Viviante, which could $500 to $1000 dollars, due to their dressier and more luxurious nature. The sportier models, such as the Chrono Classic and Infantry, are less expensive, and cost around $300 to $500.

The government of Switzerland is particular about the watches made within the nation. The moving parts of the watches must be inspected in Switzerland. The watches must also be made and assembled in Switzerland. Following these rules results in authentication by Swiss watch dealers.

The complexity of the original analog watch required many gears and coils to make it work. More than a hundred pieces were required for operation of the watch. The creativity of the watches design gave Switzerland importance in the eyes of watchmakers.

Swiss Army watches are not in need of repair as often as other watch brands might be because of the quality that goes into them at the beginning. That does not mean that accidents will not happen. There are many places that will repair a Swiss Army watch, even though they house so many moving parts.

Fraud is something to be cautious of when it comes to purchasing Swiss Army watches. Research is required to being able to tell the difference between a replica watch and one that is actually worthy of the Swiss Army name. Checking serial numbers is the first thing one could do, but a lot of people are now using real serial numbers for the fake watches they sell. The only way to fight fraud is to pay the high price the official dealers ask. A low price is not always a good deal, and it could just mean you are getting a counterfeit watch.

Swiss Army men’s watch have been around for a long time, and have made a significant impact. These mens luxury watch are always made with the time and care it takes to make a satisfactory product. Given the many satisfied customers, there will not be an end to Swiss Army watches for a very long time.

The Grand Prix categories are: best men’s watch, best lady’s watch, best design concept watch, best jewelery watch, best complicated watch, best sport watch, and a category called “Best Small Hand” which I believe is for the best watch under a certain price.

Check out the list of nominees here, and please to comment with your personal picks for the best watches below. The GPGH will be held on November 18th, 2010.

In The Sea Or The Theatre, Technomarine Women’s Watches Are The Very best

September 2nd, 2010

The world is in constant, permanent change. The Technomarine women’s watches have brought this change to the world of watches. Their Swiss design and machinery and slick vanguard design have taken everyone by surprise. New materials, different shapes and color combinations, these are the new faces of Technomarine watches.

True to their maker’s wishes in creating a first quality timepiece, the Technomarine watch is built with care and precision. It is built to withstand great pressure under water and each watch is properly tested before leaving the factory. Every kind of material used to make these watches has been tested and tried under extreme circumstances to make sure the watches people are wearing will stand up to their name and reputation.

Even the crystal used in these watches was carefully chosen after testing many options in the market. A special watch required a special window to look into it so mineral sapphire crystal was chosen. Some of these crystals characteristics are its resistance to scratches and breaks, plus its non-reflect ability of light. The fact than every Technomarine is designed and guaranteed to dive to two hundred meters has made them use the strongest crystal available in the market for every one of their watches. They know that most of them will never touch salt water, but it is a company policy to make the best and uphold their reputation.

Technomarines are probably the first watches in the world to combine plastic straps with stainless steel casings and diamond accents. This is exactly what makes them unique, the combinations of colors and materials involved in each watch. It is possible for you to buy a slick very chique watch with loud colors and a crazy design or a very elegant and expensive formal watch.

Technomarines have not set borders for women either. Their watches have the same dials and are also water resistant and diving capable. The difference lies in the different sizes and styles. Women watches are made with many more colors and have many more diamonds than men’s watches. Women’s watches colorful, while men’s watches stick to the normal patterns black, brown, white, blue and other ‘manly’ colors.

Men’s’ Technomarine watches are very sporty and are designed for hard work, as well as elegant parties and looks. They are made with stainless steel casings and the straps are made of ceramics that are extremely resistant to the elements. These watches are designed to withstand use and look good at the same time.

Both men and women models have been made with luminous faces that can almost light your way in the dark. They all have three smaller dials with chronograph functions. The date is located on the number four or under the number twelve just so people know this is not an ordinary watch. In fact nothing about this watch is ordinary.

Technomarine watch have earned their place in today’s market with quality and excellence. They are designed and built for active, adventurous people who do not mind going out on a limb. Check the mens wristwatches out as they are available online and in many authorized stores around the world.

Corum Admiral’s Cup Deep Hull 48 Limited Edition Watch

August 31st, 2010

Corum Admirals Cup Deep Hull 1 Corum Admirals Cup Deep Hull 48 Limited Edition Watch

It is big and it goes down pretty deep. It is also the first real diver’s watch from Corum that I can think of (aside from a few dive style Corum Bubble watches). This is the new for 2010 Admiral’s Cup Deep Hull 48 watch from Corum, and it is rather interesting, though I have some thoughts on it overall. The Admiral’s Cup line has been very good to the brand, and over the last few years Corum has been refining it a lot. More models, lots of variety, and a furtherance of making them look more manly as opposed to colorful (which was the classic look with all the colored flags). Today’s Admiral’s Cup watches share very little in common with the originals. Here, the flags are barely still there in monochromatic glory. The real standout features of an Admiral’s Cup watch is its 12 sided case and bezel.

Corum Admirals Cup Deep Hull 2 Corum Admirals Cup Deep Hull 48 Limited Edition Watch

The Deep Hull 48 is in a 48mm wide titanium case, and is actually weighty for titanium. It is after all, a large watch. The case comes in either brushed titanium or in PVD black coated titanium. Both are limited editions, and I think there is a reason for that. In fact, Corum releases very few Admiral’s Cup watches that aren’t limited editions. I think it is because many of them are highly niche targeted or experiments. I would suggest that the Deep Hull is an experiment. Corum is testing the design, and I think they want to make a serious case for a Corum dive watch.

Functionally the Deep Hull is a very serious diver. 1000 meters of water resistance. Automatic helium escape valve. Lots of lume, rotating diver’s bezel, rubber strap… and of course… cool name. Design wise I like the case, but I feel as though it is missing something. As though after I look it over I am left wondering, “is that it?” As though I want it to have just one more trick up its sleeve.

Corum Admirals Cup Deep Hull 5 Corum Admirals Cup Deep Hull 48 Limited Edition Watch

Corum Admirals Cup Deep Hull 3 Corum Admirals Cup Deep Hull 48 Limited Edition Watch

Maybe my problem is with the dial. It just feels too much like other subsidiary second day/date Corum Admiral’s Cup watches. Just with a bit more lume. Could Corum has done a bit more? Perhaps. Maybe something more original and dive watch in style. Look at the Chanel J12 Marine, that watch feels oceany and marine in theme. This just feels like “big Tony’s big Corum watch with sharp angles.” I want to like the Deep Hull more than I do, I love the concept, I love dive watches, but I think Corum needs to spend more time on the dial. Inside the watch is a Swiss automatic COSC Chronometer certified movement, with a subsidiary seconds hand, and a day/date complication. I have a feeling that the movement started it’s like as a modified Valjoux 7750. Corum calls the movement their calibre CO947

Corum Admirals Cup Deep Hull 6 Corum Admirals Cup Deep Hull 48 Limited Edition Watch

Again, the case, caseback, crown, strap, buckle, and other external features of the watch are great. Even the super thick 12-sided sapphire crystal over the dial is cool. Then again, the dial itself isn’t bad or anything, I just feel a desire for a bit more, and I know that Corum can give it to me. The Deep Hull 48 isn’t a bad watch, or a bad buy, but I feel that given Corum’s new found effort on design and polish, they can do a bit better. Any I have no doubt that they will. With just 500 pieces in titanium, and 255 pieces in black titanium, this limited edition set will set the stage for better and more beautiful Corum dive watches to come in the near future.

Storm Caspa Watch Review

Storm Caspa watch 7 Storm Caspa Watch Review

Given the types of watches I frequently write about on aBlogtoRead, you might think me the type who is able to afford many of these timepieces. That isn’t true – it may be that I just do all this to get access to stuff I wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford. So for those of you who lust over timepieces that can’t afford – and dream of someday being able to save up for – I feel your pain. It is for that reason that I attempt to bring to your attention timepieces that are much more affordable, or simple splurges that you don’t need to think too much about buying. Which brings me to the Storm Caspa watch.

Storm of London offers a really wide range of timepieces, and I am going to end up writing about a few of the pieces they offer that I like. The Caspa is one of them. I think it has an attractive design, and is affordable enough to allow most people to get it without really even thinking. What you get is a well adapted design, in a Storm package, the is a good fit for many occasions.

Storm Caspa watch 1 Storm Caspa Watch Review

Looking at the design you might think Omega Speedmaster mixed with Chanel or Bulgari. Actually, Storm is “borrowing” the exact dial design of a watch I previously wrote about – which is the Chronograph Suisse Mangusta Super Meccanica Stupenda watch. The Chronograph Suisse uses a different type of case, and is well… a chronograph, but you can easily see the similarity right? Storm chose a good design from a less-than-well-know brand, and helped make it more affordable. That watch from Chronograph Suisse isn’t available for much under $6,000. The Storm Caspa goes for just over $200. This practice of a less expensive brand using the design of a higher-end brand occurs daily in the watch industry and isn’t really something anyone even turns their head for (and sometimes the opposite occurs as well!).

Storm chose to not make the Caspa a chronograph. Instead using the subdials for calendar dials (date and date), as well as synchronized 24 hour hand (for indicating AM/PM). Interestingly enough, there are two large openings on the side of the case that have a clear crystal installed. Does this mean Storm initially intended the watch to be a chronograph? That a chronograph version is coming? Or perhaps it is just a coincidence based on the “skeletonized side” design of the watch.

Storm Caspa watch 2 Storm Caspa Watch Review

Storm Caspa watch 4 Storm Caspa Watch Review

Storm Caspa watch 3 Storm Caspa Watch Review

Storm does leave the tachymeter scale on the bezel which is only useful when you have a chronograph. This element on the watch is purely for looks. Some people can’t forgive that, but I don’t really mind in a watch at this level. The look of the Caspa, in its various colors is pretty satisfying. You’ll be hard pressed to find a watch at this level with a handsome look like this. Being easy to read is a good side benefit of the design, and should help sway purchase potentials.

At about 41.5mm wide, the case, in steel, is a nice size and fits well. I like that most all Storm watches I’ve ever worn are surprisingly comfortable – even the ones with less than traditional designs. The really unique design element here are the skeletonized sides of the case. Some very high-end mechanical watches have such windows in sapphire crystal to provide views into their mechanical movements, and Storm does it here to see (sort of) the quartz movement inside. It is an interesting and unexpected element that helps the Caspa feel more unique. The watch case is water resistant to 50 meters, and has a mineral crystal. For the price, I am pretty satisfied with the case.

Storm Caspa watch 5 Storm Caspa Watch Review

Storm Caspa watch 6 Storm Caspa Watch Review

Storm puts the Caspa on a leather strap with a crocodile texture. This comes in black or brown, depending on the color of the dial (which comes in four tones) – black being my favorite. The strap looks nice, and feels comfy, but I don’t think it will last very long. Expect maybe a year or so of wear out of the strap before it will need to be replaced.

For a comfortable, stylish, and easy to read watch that is very affordable, Storm has some good offerings, and this Caspa model is near the top of my list. Price from Storm is $210, and I believe the Caspa is a new product for 2010.

Check out the Caspa watch collection via Storm here.

Thanks to Storm for the review unit. Opinions are 100% independent.

The Qualities That Is Behind The Maurice Lacroix Ladies Watch

August 30th, 2010

Watches are the essence of who a person is, whether they are a man or a woman. The types of watches that people choose to wear symbolize and reflect who they are as a person. We can tell what motivates a person, what makes them happy, and what makes them tick, just by seeing what kind of watch they wear. There are many Maurice Lacroix watches that many people choose to wear.

Maurice Lacroix is a small Swiss watchmaker that is represented by about four thousand stores in almost sixty different countries worldwide. Maurice Lacroix is world renowned for its attention to detail in its watches. These details are very easy to see in the watches that they make.

There are several types of watches offered by this Swiss company. One type of mens watch is the MP6348 Masterpiece Masterchrono Automatic. This watch is characterized by a brushed stainless steel case. The dial has a silver tone and silver hands. A second hand is included with this watch.

A Decorated Black Alligator is another type of watch that is offered by this Swiss Company. This is also part of the Masterchrono collection. This luxury watch has a stainless steel case and has sapphire crystal functions. The watch has a sixty second subdial, along with larger thirty minute and twelve hour subdials. The band of this watch is made from alligator skin.

The decorated on stainless watch by Maurice Lacroix is another elegant mens watch. This watch features a black dial with silver hands and Arabic numerals on the face. The band is a stainless steel link with a deployment clasp. This watch is a chronograph and is part of the Masterpiece Series, in the subseries Masterchrono.

The Rose Gold Automatic watch with Moon Phase application features is another mens watch. This one has a black dial with rose gold hands. A rose gold case is also featured on this watch, along with a complete calendar feature that includes the phases of the moon. There is a buckle clasp on the alligator band of the watch.

A Big Date Automatic watch for men also has an alligator band. It is stainless steel and has a stainless steel case along with a silver dial and hands on the face. Roman numerals are the type of measurement for this type of watch. It is a part of the Masterpiece collection and is designed as a watch to be worn for casual occasions.

An eighteen karat Gold Bezel is offered on the Big Date Automatic watch for men. This one has a silver toned dial and rose gold hands with hour markers on the face. Brown alligator skin makes up the band of the luxury watch and a deployment clasp keeps the band together. The bezel material of the watch is eighteen karat gold.

Everyone has something to gain by buying one of these mens wrist watch. Watches tell people what our personalities are like and they are one of the most revealing parts of our wardrobe. They show everyone what kind of people we are and who we like to hang around with. Watches get us known. With all of the Maurice Lacroix gents watchs all over the world, it is almost impossible not to find a watch that suits you.

Panerai Says “FU” With Limited Edition PAM336 Watch For China

Panerai PAM366 China Panerai Says FU With Limited Edition PAM336 Watch For China

Probably good that Panerai doesn’t sell an “FU” watch in the western world as we are probably going to take it as a signal of their amusement that we are putting up with their prices. No, Panerai doesn’t even care too much about the English speaking world for the time being. Richemont, and other luxury watch groups have their sights securely set on (primarily) China, and other parts of Asia, given the fact that the only excitement in watch sales to be seen now is coming from those regions of the world. Each brand is vying for the attention and respect of the Chinese consumer – who is fundamentally a different animal than that the western consumer as I understand it. I hear tales of how Chinese consumers actually understand the mechanics of watches, know the values, and have keen eyes for details. Scary stuff for some watch retailers and some brands! Actually this is good. Not that people like us are without knowledge, but we aren’t exactly the “typical” watch buyer here in the states (which is why each of you needs to educate at least one person a month on the pleasure of being into expensive little machines).

fu character Panerai Says FU With Limited Edition PAM336 Watch For China

As much as I don’t like being in a country where my beloved hobby and career isn’t taken as seriously as it would if I lived in Europe or Hong Kong – I am happy that in places where watches are selling well, the consumers are forcing brands to put their best stuff on the table. Panerai never made a watch with a four-leaf clover on it, but they don’t have a problem making one with the Chinese character “Fu” that means good luck, or good fortune. Probably the most important “positive” character in the Chinese language as I am told. Is this the best way of telling consumers in China that “Panerai really does care about you?” I am not sure. I think enough Panerai fans will enjoy the novelty, but history tells me that Chinese consumers like western things because they are western. Panerai is seen as an Italian brand, not a Chinese one. So why is there Chinese on the dial? It is entirely possible that this tactic works wonderfully for brand fans looking for a cool new limited edition piece – but how will it work in the long term. It is part of what I call “Asianification” of watch brands. Basically where a non-Asian brand focuses their designs, sizes, limited editions, etc… on the Asian market. The result is a total removal of the character and status that made the brands popular in the first place. If people in China want to buy watches made for the Chinese market, they have loads of local options. When they buy Panerai they want an Italian watch with an Italian or Swiss movement.

Panerai FU close Panerai Says FU With Limited Edition PAM336 Watch For China

I think that having dedicated brand boutiques and marketing in a certain region is enough communication that a brand is “serious” about that region’s people. China has a lot of attention from high-end watch brands. Those brands should focus on what they do best in their home countries and carry it over to China, not try new things there necessarily.

The watch in steel, is 44mm wide with a Swiss (base ETA) OP II movement that is manually wound. I think this might be a Unitas. It has 50 hours of power reserve, and Panerai has them all COSC Chronometer certified. Water resistant to 300 meters, the watch has a sapphire crystal and a subsidiary seconds dial. Pretty standard stuff for entry level Panerai watches – which is what this is. At 1,500 units in the limited edition of the piece, these aren’t exactly super special in the scheme of Panerai watches. The whole allure here seems to be the whole “Panerai + Fu” aspect of the watch. You are basically talking about a simple Panerai with the Fu character on the dial as the 6 o’clock indicator. So while enough people in China will love the watch, I don’t feel as though it communicates a sincere level of Panerai “connecting” with the Chinese people. Panerai and other European brands need to stick with what they are good at, and simply market it well in China. Changing their image too much with permanently take away from the brand’s character, and ultimately damage sales in China, and the world over. Price for the Panerai Luminor Marina PAM366 China edition watch is reportedly about $4,400.
