Excellent product from Casio: Recommended,
Casio has made reliable electronic products for years. I bought a watch in 1980′s and it still works! The original plastic case broke and I moved into another watch’s steel casing but it didn’t mind.
Coming to this particular product:
It does what it says on the tin. I bought it in 1996 as a graduation present to myself.
So far I replaced the original broken strap once, and it is getting its 4th set of batteries. It takes Maxell SR927SW which can be bought from the Internet at 99pence each – 2 batteries are required.
There are quite a few pre-programmed cities for which it gives prayer times and Qibla direction (for Muslims to offer Salah (prayer) facing the black mosque in Macca, Saudi Arabia).
Another feature is that if a city isn’t present in the list, once provided with longitude and latitude of a city, it will calculate prayer times and give Qibla directions, which is a cool feature. However, it would have been cooler if the customised readings could be saved with the name of the city; maybe in a later model.
Pressing the Qibla / Compass button repeatedly will obviously drain the battery faster. There are 2 batteries inside this little machine, I don’t really know which one is for the watch itself and which one is for the compass. I usually replace them together.
So far I have had no problems with the watch. I bought for approximately £25 15 years ago but it’s worth every penny – and more.
