An absolutely excellent watch!,
I’m writing this review primarily as I am so inspired to do so because of the sheer quality of the watch and secondarily to help those who are interested in purchasing it as I had trouble finding reviews and opinions of the watch anywhere online.
I should start by saying that I did not buy the watch but it was bought for me as a 21st birthday present. I, being a young and fashion concious young adult was interested in the technology behind the watch but was wary of the design. Initially I saw Citizen as a brand suited for an older man, primarily because of designs such as the Citizen Skyhawk models which have loads of bells and whistles all over the watch. This watch however, one of the newer eco-drive models, seemed plain, elegant, and simple that focused on accurate time-keeping. Some watches are designed for diving specialists, some for aviation, and I would class this watch as one for the every day man. It would go well with smart business attire being a simple black and white design, it would go well with a casual look, it’s pretty much exactly the kind of design I was looking for (akin to designs found by Armani or Thomas Sabo fashion watches). If you do, however, feel the need to take the watch under water it is completely water proof up to 200m.
I was wary of how accurate the watch could be but after setting it up I can confirm that it is literally accurate to the millisecond. It is satisfying holding the watch up to the computer screen and watching as the dials of the watch move in perfect synchronisation with the actual time and it is excellent to know that every time you glance at your watch you’re not looking at a time that is as accurate as can be with human error but you’re looking as the exact time. Furthermore this accuracy is perfectly simple to achieve, simply hold down the lower right button of the watch for 2 seconds and it will receive the radio signal from the closest receiving point (in the case of people in the UK, Germany) in 2 to 15 minutes (in my experience, always 2 minutes). I could not be more impressed. Furthermore the fact that the watch will recharge it’s battery constantly from any light source is a massive plus, it started working the second I took it out of it’s case as the watch began received energy from the light of the room. I did not even know this was possible.
In short the watch is beautifully constructed and has an elegant no nonsense design that would be well suited to almost any situation. It is not too thick and not too thin, perfectly weighted considering it is a watch for a man (which is not something I could say for the titanium model. Despite having a far superior metal in terms of durability I found to be uncomfortably light which detracted from the allure of the watch and, to me, made the watch feel cheaper despite being a more expensive model). I recommend anyone who is considering buying this watch to go to your local Citizen watch dealer and try on the watch for yourself, I was far more impressed with the design after seeing it in person and I do not feel that any of the pictures online truly do it justice. Kudos to Citizen, this watch is a thing of beauty not only due to it’s design but it’s masterful construction!

Superb Instrument,
I had been after a large stylish quality watch for a while – but my search is now over. I had considered paying a large amount for an Omega watch which look superb, but I have heard mixed reviews from owners who say they have had problems with the watches keeping accurate time. I also saw a 2 year old Omega recently and the strap looked cheap and nasty. When I saw this watch and the features of the Citizen – It was just what I wanted. I wanted a very accurate watch, didn’t want to be changing the date for 30 day months and wanted a watch I could see easily at night.
The first thing to say is that the watch looks absolutely superb. It has a large face but not too large. The central black ridged area (the photocell area) gives a contrast to the face. The date is very easy to see (even without my reading glasses). The strap is two-toned stainless steel – the centre rows are highly polished to give the strap a real quality feel.
When I first received the watch I opened the box and the watch sprang into life and immediately set itself to the time it was previously set to (this turned out to be Los Angeles time but was very easily changed). The only real difficulty was getting a clear reception to receive a time signal from Germany. I live in Sheffield and the signal can be hit and miss. I have found it is best to place the watch in a window overnight with the 9 O’Clock position of the watch pointing East. It then managed to pick up a signal during the night. The watch functioned fully from taking out of the box but took about 4 days to fully charge in winter outdoor / artificial indoor light. Pressing a single button tells you the state of charge of the battery and whether the watch has received a time signal or not.
I can imagine the watch being a dream to have for a seasoned traveller as it is very easy to change the time -you simply pull out the crown once and move the second hand to whichever city it says around the fixed bezel and the other hands move to the correct time. The watch will then receive a time signal from an area associated with this city.
The only other thing to comment on is the luminescence of the dial. This is subtle -not like some watches very bright when the lights go out but dimming very quickly. The Citizen seems to be visible all night at a constant level.
I am very glad I bought this watch for a reasonable price.
Most places are charging £300 for this watch, Amazon was £246.
