Garmin 201 Forerunner,
I read quite a few reviews on this before I bought it. I’ve now had mine for about 2 months & it is FANTASTIC!!
Never had a GPS before but my pedometer was not accurate enough for running as it only measures stride length which can vary. I would never go back to Pedometers or ordinary sports watches, this one does it all.
Two of my favourite features is that you can set it so that the timer stops automatically if you stop, which was a big selling point for me as I didn’t want to be fiddling with it all the time during runs.
The light feature is very good & on dark nights you can leave it on permantently so its easy to read in the winter without having to press it all the time.
You can also see how many calories burnt, miles ran, total time its taken, each week, which is great incentive, (works from Sunday to Sunday though), do wish that was Monday to Sunday but thats my only gripe.
Overall alot of common sense has gone into this little GPS, its very user friendly & records your work out efforts effortlessly leaving you to get on & enjoy it!!

Good while it’s working,
Brought one of these in June 2005. For the first few months worked really well, did loose the signal in wooded areas etc. but generally speaking was good. At the beginning of Mar 2006 the reciever just stopped working, since then have been trying to get in contact with Garmin, sent several e-mails to the customer support (a complete misnomer) with no replies. Cannot send the device to be repaired as require a RMA number which you get from customer support and the only phone number is one in the US.
Bottom line if you are prepared to pay ~£100 for a few months then this is the devise for you, If however it breaks which appears to be a frequent occurance then you might as well just bin it as you ain’t going to get any help from Garmin.
