Is Titanium worth it?,
The Seiko Titanium watch is a quartz driven chronograph watch that includes a date feature as well as a built in alarm. The styling is rather unique, the titanium bracelet and body gives the watch a dull grey look as opposed to shiny stainless steel, and this in conjunction with the (silver face… not white as previously stated or as picture shows!) and blue hands certainly looks striking. Other features that I love are the sweeping second hand when the chronograph is running (i.e. the second hand, rather than on click per second, moves with multiple clicks per second) and the separate alarm dial with two hands. I personally love it but there are a few things you should bare in mind:
1) Titanium – now I know it sounds really awesome and macho to say you have a titanium watch but there are some facts that you need to be aware of. Firstly, the main reason for using titanium for watches is that it allows the design to be slimmer and much lighter. This watch is very very light, almost insubstantial, thus if you like the feel of something chunky and heavy on your wrist, then this is not the watch for you. Titanium also induces thoughts of an indestructible watch, but in reality the tensile strength it provides does not extend far beyond stainless steel. It is difficult to break stainless steel, thus titanium in this regard is not really a benefit. Moreover, titanium is much easier to scratch. This is an important consideration. However, it is possible to polish away the scratches on both stainless steel and titanium, but this process is much easier to do with titanium. On balance, the only reason to have a titanium watch is its dull grey styling and the light weight slimmer profile that the material allows.
2)Bracelet Strap – Firstly again because of the titanium, it is really lightweight. Secondly, unless you are a giant, you will have to remove some of the links. This is easy to do yourself, all you need is a thin screwdriver, or some spiked tool. When you look at the underside of the bracelet, there are two holes, one of which has an arrow pointing up next to it. This indicates the direction that the plate within moves when you want to remove the link. To do this, insert the tool into the other hole (not the one with the arrow next to it), push in and up in the direction of the arrow. The plate will slide out but note that it may take a little force and I found that once it moves a little, on the other side of the plate that comes out, there is a hole which can be used to stick tool in and continue moving plate in direction of arrow. Once you have removed the links you want, simply reinsert the plates. This again can take a little force but I found that if you bite down with your teeth on the plate when it sticks out, it pops back into place.
In conclusion, Seiko is a highly reputable Japanese company, and the watch they have produced here is, in my opinion a great watch for the price on Amazon. There are many manufacturers that produce Fashion watches such as Fossil, Police, Diesel, etc… however, bare in mind that unless you absolutely love the look, you will not be getting much bang for you buck. This is why I choose to go with reliable Seiko. Titanium sound goods but in reality it only gives a light and slim watch with a dull grey look. If this is what you are looking for, then I can recommend this watch to you. Whatever you decide, may you find a perfect watch.
All the Best
