Over five hundred years have passed since the first pocket watch was displayed. One of the original versions came from Germany and was the beginning of a popular trend. As time has continued to pass, watch companies began to appear around the world. But one particular company has an exceptional place in the industry – Citizen watches.

Prior to the company name coming to pass, their roots began in 1918. It took a little over a decade before the watch company was established in 1930. The name was chosen by the mayor of Tokyo; setting a goal that every citizen should have an opportunity to own a high quality timepiece.

Although it was not the only watch company, it did have a goal; to make watches available to the masses. It didn’t take but a few years after it’s incorporation to build the first watch factory in Japan. Today there are over 3,000 people around the globe employed with exports to countries throughout the world.

As the watch company continued to grow and create, it became the first Japanese corporation to produce a shock resistant wrist watch. Though that may not seem of great significance today, it was a major leap in technology at that time. This opened the door to a more reliable and wearable product. Just three short years later they jumped ahead once again with the first water resistant watch.

As time sped by, the company moved forward with its goal of exporting its product to China. During the next decade export growth continued with an agreement to ship to the United States. As a technology leader they produced a diver’s watch; the worlds first watch with the ability to detect depth electronically.

Over the next few decades watches began to become more than just a way to tell time. They became a fashion statement and a wearable work of art. Today we see watches selling for thousands of dollars; making a clear statement to the value of wrist gear. During all this time, this corporate marvel kept setting the standard for quality and innovation. Dedicated designers and engineers created the thinnest liquid crystal display watch. Following right behind that breakthrough, the thinnest light powered watch was created, eliminating the need for winding or batteries.

Not forgetting the world around us, the company led the industry in technology and environmental awareness. It was the first corporation to receive the Eco Mark approval for its advanced light powered watches. The Eco Mark symbol represents a voluntary effort by a company to protect the earth by creating products (watches) that reduce waste and improve the environment.

Personality and taste vary from one individual to the next, creating the need for watches of different styles, sizes and prices. Being the worlds largest watchmaker they offer a wide range of choices to fit one’s taste. In today’s culture, mens wristwatches are just as much a display of your personality as they are a way to tell time. Certainly Citizen ladies watch are a definitive work of art, technology and originality.
